Is Planago right for you?

Planago is not a cloud app that simply "works" everywhere – it is software that is installed on your own web hosting. That's why you buy it once instead of renting it monthly. Please read this page carefully before you buy.

⚠️ The 30-second test

Ask yourself: Does your hosting provider give you access to FTP/SFTP or a file manager where you could upload your own .php file?

✅ Yes / sounds familiar? Then Planago works for you. You can buy right away.

❌ No / never heard of it / my website was built entirely with a website builder? Then please read on first – in that case Planago cannot be installed on your current site. A right of withdrawal only exists for consumers. It expires early if you have expressly agreed to immediate provision (see the right of withdrawal and section 7 of our terms).

✅ Works for you

Your own hosting plan with PHP support and file access, e.g.:

  • IONOS (hosting plan, not "MyWebsite")
  • STRATO (hosting plan, not the website builder)
  • All-Inkl, Hetzner, netcup, Domainfactory
  • Self-hosted WordPress (wordpress.org, on your own web hosting)
  • Any classic shared hosting, VPS or dedicated server with PHP

❌ Doesn't work

Website builders without your own file/FTP access, e.g.:

  • Wix
  • Jimdo
  • Squarespace
  • Shopify, Weebly
  • WordPress.com (without your own hosting)
  • The "website builders" of many hosting providers (e.g. IONOS MyWebsite, STRATO website builder)

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Planago – an app or a file to upload?

Planago is PHP software (with its own small database) that you install on your own web hosting using a setup file – much like WordPress. After installation you embed the ready-made booking widget on your website with an iFrame code. Uploading and running the setup file is the step that requires "real" hosting with PHP support.

How do I know whether I have "my own hosting"?

Look in your customer account with your hosting or domain provider for terms such as "FTP credentials", "file manager", "phpMyAdmin" or "PHP version". If they exist, you have real file access and Planago works. If you only find a drag-and-drop website editor and no mention of FTP or PHP at all, you are probably using a pure website builder.

Does Planago work with Wix, Jimdo or Squarespace?

Not directly. These website builders don't allow uploading your own PHP files and don't offer FTP access – Planago simply cannot be installed there, no matter how technical you are. That's not your fault, it's the platform itself.

I use Wix/Jimdo but still want to use Planago – is that possible?

Yes, with a detour: you additionally book a small, separate web hosting plan (often available for €3–5 per month), install Planago there and then embed only the finished booking widget in your Wix/Jimdo site with an iFrame code. The widget can be embedded in practically any website – only the installation itself needs hosting of your own.

It's easier if you run a business: with Planago with hosting we run Planago for you at yourname.planago.app, without any hosting plan of your own.

Does Planago work with WordPress?

It depends on which WordPress: self-hosted WordPress (wordpress.org, installed on your own web hosting) works without problems. WordPress.com without your own hosting should be treated like a website builder and usually does not work, unless you have explicitly booked a plan with your own FTP access.

Is Planago available in English?

Yes. Since version 1.6.0 the booking page, the confirmation and reminder emails, the admin area and the installer are available in German and English. You set the language, time zone and 12- or 24-hour time format in the admin area under Hours & process. Public holidays can be blocked automatically for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Installation runs through an automatic setup form in your browser (upload the file, open it, done). You do need access to an FTP client or file manager to upload the setup file in the first place – that's the only technical step.

Do I need a cron job?

Not for the bookings themselves: your customers can book without a cron job, and the booking confirmation is sent immediately. Some features run in the background via the cron job, though: reminder emails before the appointment, review requests after the appointment, automatic deletion of old bookings and the licence and update check. If you want to use them, set up a cron job with your hosting provider that calls cron.php, for example every hour. If your plan has no cron jobs, a free external service can call cron.php regularly instead.

I'm still not sure – what should I do?

The safest option: before buying, briefly ask your hosting provider whether your plan offers FTP access and PHP support, or simply send us the name of your hosting plan via our contact form. We'll tell you honestly whether Planago runs on it before any money changes hands.

I've already bought it and found out it doesn't fit – what now?

Contact us as soon as possible at info@planago.de and briefly describe your hosting setup. A right of withdrawal only exists for consumers. It expires early if you have expressly agreed to immediate provision (see the right of withdrawal and section 7 of our terms). We are happy to look at individual cases, though.
